Digestion

The intensification of pollution and the spread of abandoned objects into the environment, specifically on the shores of the Caspian Sea, have transformed the natural process of the ecosystem. These wastes have not only visually affected the seabed, but have increasingly entered the biological cycle. Industrial plastic and glass objects, which are part of our daily experience as human beings, have also become the reality of the environment and nature.

Barnacles are sticky sea creatures of the Caspian Sea coasts and they clearly illustrate the combination of the ecosystem with human beings’ dumped things. In this process, in addition to their natural environmental substrate (stone and plant), barnacles also interact with wastes such as shoes, glass bottles, and plastic utensils as their new biological substrate.

Our daily and continuous connection with the seashores has drawn our attention to this expanding phenomenon in recent years. This project titled “Digestion” is a reference to the struggle of the sea as a living organism to digest and absorb the invasive wastes that enter it.

This collection is a joint project that has been defined for an installation. Among many objects that have been found, a selection of them will be arranged with each other. The set of attached photos indicates the images of the objects in the coastal environment, the process of collecting them, and also a selection of studio-photographed pictures of them.
